As part of her bedtime routine, Bridget sits on her bed and reads two books out loud to herself. Obviously she can't read, but she also knows these stories nearly by heart—so she ends up with these half-invented, half-guessed-by-the-pictures epics that I can hear pretty clearly through the baby monitor.
The following is one of her made-up stories from tonight (loosely based on Franklin Says I Love You).

He didn’t want anything bad to happen. Franklin got ready and got his hat on. He really loved rocks. He noticed that his toy Sam was in his room the next night. Franklin and Bear had him that much. Harriet went for another walk. They played catch with him, and made him fly pie and read him two stories before his bedtime.
His grandma made him a delicious cake with ants on the left, ladybugs on the outside, and wonderful icing. The batter was mixed. Franklin licked the batter off forks and off knifes. And he helped his mother bake a necklace. He thought maybe he could go to bed himself.
Bear had a good idea: make his mother breakfast. “Can you make breakfast?” “Sure!” said Franklin. “Can you bring your mother flowers?” “Sure!” said Franklin. “Can you make your mother food and a necklace?” “Sure!” said Franklin. Franklin was still confused. It was his mother’s birthday the next morning. Franklin got a piece of paper, and made the card. Harriet made a card. They sang "Happy Birthday" to their mother, she put on her pajamas, and she read the card.
