We have decided to hold a contest here on A Portrait of the Baby as we get closer to baby-time, guessing the actual date of Katie's delivery. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment on this post with your guessed date (and time of day), and I will compile it on the sidebar so it looks all official and whatnot. Prizes include a firm handshake, and a total of 5 (five) re-tellings of "the time [you] totally guessed when [Bridget/Finley] was born!" to the child when he/she is grown up. Here are the facts:

  1. The baby is due on October 4.
  2. As of today — Wednesday, September 20 — Katie is exactly 38 weeks pregnant.
  3. I once had a dream where the baby was early.
Check below for a recent picture of Katie. Now let's set a good example for the baby — start gambling!

I don't know why I looked this up cuz astrology is clearly bullshit, but...

(Assuming the kid's not born in the next two days...)

The Sun is now in Libra (2006 dates: 04:03 GMT 23 September - 13:26 GMT 23 October)
Libra is the only inanimate sign of the zodiac, all the others representing either humans or animals. Many modern astrologers regard it as the most desirable of zodiacal types because it represents the zenith of the year, the high point of the seasons, when the harvest of all the hard work of the spring is reaped. There is a mellowness and sense of relaxation in the air as mankind enjoys the last of the summer sun and the fruits of his toil. Librans too are among the most civilized of the twelve zodiacal characters and are often good looking. They have elegance, charm and good taste, are naturally kind, very gentle, and lovers of beauty, harmony (both in music and social living) and the pleasures that these bring.

My guess is going to be September 30th. A solid 5 days before the due date means the kid is going to rock (like me!)

Ooooh! Gambling!

Well, my birthday and Katie's favorite guess in earlier conversations, September 18th, is gone. So, that was wrong. I'm glad this was posted post 18th, or I'd have lost. So....we're moving on to the next cousin birthday, September 27th.

That's right, September 27th is the day and I'm thinking 4:55 pm is the time (random, yes).

Just think Katie, then Finley/Briget and Heather can forever exchange "we have the same birthday" cards and we can all laugh as we do annually on October 10th. Oh, October 10th?! That would be three birthdays on one day......hmmm...

No, no, for Katie's sake, I'll bet labour starts early on September 27th. But, how long will this labour be? There's another question for betting! 3 hours? 6? 12? 24?!

I'll be watching my email and the site Tatie.....

Jeff says: "Can you guess October 4th for me cuz it's MY damn birthday?"

So Jeff's guess is October 4th

Mike told me on Friday you guys were upset with people guessing middle of the night type times, and I told him that I had heard, odds are that's when the baby would be born, and he called bullshit on that cuz time means nothing to the baby.

But...

I remembered where I had heard it and what was actually meant. My mom told me once that odds are that you will START labour in the middle of the night, when you're sleeping. Because you're calm and still and lying down and that allows the baby to more easily get into the right position.

So, just because odds are (according to my mom) that you'll start labour in the middle of the night does not mean that the baby will be born in the middle of the night. The middle of the night guess times probably are saying that they expect you to start labour at like 7pm, at least with my guess of mid-afternoon, it's possible that you could have a partial night's sleep before starting ;)

But you guys should get used to having your nights interrupted anyway :D

I vote October 9th, 9am.

A little late in the game I know... but you'll get over it.

And Katie, if you're looking to induce labour, my friend's doctor told her to eat spicy Nando's chicken when she was waaaaay overdue.
